MCG
Surge Protection nominated for the Small Business Administrator’s Award for Excellence
NY, NY: The SBA recently nominated MCG Surge
Protection of Deer Park, NY, for the Administrator’s Award of Excellence for their
collaboration with TRW on a critical, time-sensitive requirement for the US
Army.
TRW approached MCG to design custom surge
protection for application between the GPS link and the computer. The
installations, plagued by transients that were being generated when the GPS
system was linked to the computer, were sustaining damage and malfunction. Five
thousand units in the field are vulnerable.
A military exercise was scheduled to start
that fall, necessitating the delivery of 688 of the TVSS units. The
requirements called for a Data Line Protector that could easily plug into and
become an integral part of the system. It must divert transients in nanoseconds.
Physically, the unit needed to have hardwired connections on both ends and be
housed in a waterproof enclosure compatible with the application.
MCG had less than 4 weeks to design a prototype,
get approval, order parts, assemble and drop ship to Fort Hood, Texas. TRW sent
quality assurance personnel to the MCG plant to approve its quality control
system, which is now ISO-9001:2000 compliant. MCG employees worked overtime to ensure
that the 688 pieces arrived on time for the military exercise. The effort of
everyone involved was huge.

MCG Model DLP-1931
Under a seemingly impossible deadline, MCG was
able to successfully satisfy a critical need, and was proud to do so. To date,
there are zero reported failures in the MCG protectors or the protected
equipment.
MCG Surge Protection was founded in 1967 and
specializes solely in the design and manufacture of AC Power Line,
Data/Signal/Telephone Line and DC Surge Protectors. MCG pioneered many of the
innovations that are commonplace today including modularity, redundancy,
low-impedance Micro-Z wiring, and advanced local diagnostics for ease of
servicing, event monitoring, audible alarm, etc.
